These Free Line Faces are a series of paintings that I did based on the artist study of blind contour. Blind contour is when you draw an image without looking as you draw, and often your paper or surface is covered with a cloth or paper so that you cannot see your image until you are done. The method is used to use your hand instinctually and to really concentrate on what you are seeing with your eyes (or in your mind's eye) and to momentarily let go of the control of the image before you. As someone who paints mostly controlled, detailed art, this practice is a breath of fresh air for me and oh so much fun. Sometimes the creations end up as scribbles, but sometimes they are something organic, free, and unhindered by thought. I've turned some of these sketches into paintings, paired with abstract and mixed media backgrounds. The end result is a pure free moment caught in time. I hope you enjoy them. :)
