Antique Nippon moustache cup- designed for moustachio’ed men who don’t want to dip their stache’s in their tea! Too funny. These cups with an attached ledge called a moustache guard (to keep the ‘stache dry) grew popular in the Victorian era. This is handpainted porcelain with gold lustre. This mark was used from 1891 to 1921, when marking the country of origin became a required thing- Nippon was the Japanese word for Japan, hence made in Japan. After 1921 it was required they switch to marking it Japan. In really fabulous condition, with no chips or cracks.
